[Non-pigeon birds fed on pigeon milk grow up faster and stronger than birds fed normal high-nutrition food! ...but Julien wouldn't think of that.]

Huh... Is this like a hatchling, or an adult? Claws and beak might be good hints.

[ That's a good question. For all she knows he could be anywhere between years old or 'just popped out of an egg yesterday' age. Her past-life's world hasn't exactly proven itself to be... normal, and the chick himself is already plenty abnormal. ]

Would you rather just see a video or...?

Video would be a start. I do also know a language animals understand, so maybe if I met him it could help.

[ There's a pause, but then after a minute or so there is video, if not very quality- the same apartment as before, with Kallie's hand and arm coming into frame as she reaches out in the direction of a green puffball staring really intensely out the window.

"Hey... come here," says Kallie's voice- and even though there has to be a distance of at least five feet and the bird looks rather like a roly-poly baby chicken than something capable of fluttering over to her hand... that's exactly what it does, after an obligatory moment of blankly staring at her. No trouble at all. ]

...well, that's interesting.

[He considers.]

What have you offered him? Does he gape and beg you or just peck at stuff?

[ The video keeps going, though in a kind of awkward manner; Kallie's certainly no photographer, and it moves around strangely as the girl apparently folds herself into a chair or something while still keeping the camera on the little chocobo in general.

There's a quiet kweee! of protest at the jostling, but he stays in place. ]

... He's gotten into my vegetables, granola... maybe the yogurt, too.

[ Help she has a strong suspicion he might want to eat anything.... ]

Well, that's a start. Probably... It looks kind of like a chicken. Those guys end up able to eat everything, just about.

If he's this robust it might be worth just seeing whatever he'll eat. Offer... oh, chopped vegetables, all kinds, same with fruit, and grain... Unsalted nuts, those might be good. Chopped up hardboiled egg, sprouted seeds. Dairy's probably fine. Stay away from things with caffeine, and junk food, and like avacados.

[He considers for another moment.]

And make sure there's water.

[ Some of that she's already guessed, some surprising, and... oh, c'mon man, she knows about water; she's a runner, after all. ]

Yeah...

[ She can't deny it, EVEN KALLIE RAYDAN CAN'T DENY IT: he's pretty damn cute. She sighs, but her voice is softer. ]

I just worry what he wants to eat and what he should eat are two different things....

Well... at this point it's hard to tell. But anything with lots of fat, like nuts, should just be like treats. And anything really sweet. Try offering more vegetables than fruit.

A little meat won't hurt him either, I think. Just, as plain as possible. ...Dog or cat food might work. Not a lot, mind.

Makes sense, I guess...

[ Probably about the same as what she could have found out on the internet, but it does help to have it sort of consolidated into one stream of advice. It's not like the world at large really faces the issue of feeding a mystery bird.

All she can hope here is that she has enough access to what the chocobo needs - that whatever power is behind returning these random things to them wouldn't give her something that is impossible to actually keep from dying on her.... ]

He can't really be a chicken, but he looks something like one. It helps if he's the precocial type instead of needing you to drop food in, he should be able to discriminate, a little.

Did you give him a name?

[ Not a chicken for sure- too few toes, for instance, though the full realization of that hasn't quite hit Kallie yet. ]

... No. [ A pause with a sigh inserted into it. ] Thought I'd see if anything about him came up first.

Yeah, it might be awkward if you pick something and then you find out he's called Admiral Fluffy or something.

Let's see... Well, you'll want him kept warm and not left alone much. How do the other birds treat him? If they're hanging around and he's at the window they must've seen each other.

Mm.

[ Or Odin, but haha who would name a teeny lil bird something like that, anyway? ]

... Well. Yeah, they see each other - I think - but...

But what? Is it just me or have they been acting kind of weird?

I don't know; I don't really plan on letting them interact directly any time soon.

[ -- Wait. Is he talking about something that doesn't have to do with mystery!bird? Whoops. ]

Some of them are... well, they seem a lot more curious. You could let him meet some and see what happens. Keep the screen in the window in the way, maybe.

[ She's still unsure, and doesn't really know what to make of the curiosity comment. She doesn't really have a good "before" basis to judge on. ]

If they made friends, that'd be cute! And if he's a social animal at all he'll hate being alone. Chickens are like that.

[Julien is like that. gah. But he's always been like that, long before Locke.]
