On Julien's Family, for
savetheearth
Mother - Isabeau Sakazaki, 47
Father - "Argentan", 56
I haven't nailed down the name of Julien's father. "Argentan" is likely a company name. I took it from this page of hypothetical dub names. Argentan is more Caucasian than Asian - three of his grandparents were white, one of his grandmothers was born in the States but had Japanese parents, so she and her children were shut into an internment camp during WWII. One of said children, Argentan's mother, married a wealthy industrialist and moved to Canada when Argentan was a toddler.
Argentan's hair started going white in his teens. "Argentan" meaning "Silver" and the appropriateness of this has been discussed thoroughly. He learned from his father, went into business himself, and also dabbled somewhat in politics. He's charming, manipulative, and rather self-centered. Julien resembles him somewhat.
Isabeau's father was partially Korean and born in Japan, her mother was born and raised French Canadian and had somewhat muddled Caucasian ancestry. She's got a half-sibling who was parent to Blaine(
siesinddasessen). Isabeau was impressionable, a little sheltered, and had some early local fame as a singer and small-stage actress.
Isabeau and Argentan met when he was in her city for business, and he impressed the eighteen-year-old with wealth and grand gestures, starting a very rapid courtship and using her crush and her family's misgivings about the relationship to encourage her to cut herself off from them. They married in 1984 after Isabeau got pregnant. She bore a daughter, Cecelia. In 1989 she had Julien.
Gradually Isabeau started to realize that Argentan wasn't as good as he'd seemed. He spent less and less effort in charming her, lost interest in each child quickly except as props to show off with, didn't like Isabeau speaking in Japanese, and wasn't always subtle in discouraging her from having contact with friends and family. Isabeau spent some years trying to salvage her marriage, then trying to become resigned to it, then to looking into ways out. In 1994 she told Argentan she wanted a divorce. Their split was really nasty.
Argentan has at least one other child. The known one is a son somewhat younger than Julien, with a mistress who he married as soon as he was officially single to keep the scandal down. He may or may not be married today, and fought against sending money to Isabeau and their kids at every turn.
Isabeau managed to get some money from the split but still struggled as a single mother with two kids and no education beyond high school, moving often to try and take advantage of this or that while also trying not to be trapped anywhere. When her family reached out to her they helped, but she maintained an independent streak born of a paranoia about being controlled again. She married someone else some years later and kept her maiden name. Now she and her easygoing husband live and work in Connecticut. They haven't had more children, but her husband brought a child from a previous marriage with him.
Her relationship with her daughter is good. Cece is someone to be proud of. Isabeau doesn't really approve of the single parenthood thing but has resigned herself to it and is glad of her daughter's independence. Her relationship with her son... As he got older she saw more and more of his father in him, especially when he was a teenager. A lot of his raising was left to Cecelia. Now Isabeau regrets somewhat that they aren't closer but doesn't know what to do about it; for his part Julien is convinced she doesn't care about him.
Sister - Cecelia Sakazaki, 29
Cecelia (Cece) has a degree in some form of engineering and is one of those disgustingly fairly successful people - not rich, but competent and you know they're doing well. She has a high drive and applies her intelligence precisely. I don't know exactly what she does, but she owns some lab coats. One of the few women in a male-dominated field, and partly Asian to boot, she has a reputation for not tolerating any form of harassment - which is a mixed thing considering fields dominated by white men.
She is the a single mother of a little girl, Valerie. All I know about the father is that he doesn't live with her. Julien moved in with them to help take care of his niece, exploit the decent local job market, and because the rent's not bad.
NOTE FOR FUTURE APPERS: Argentan's unnamed son is a good candidate for a Sakuya reincarnation, so I've left all that pretty vague. If any Sakuya RP-ers end up interested, contact me?
