Character
Name: Julien Sakazaki. Technically he's the reincarnation of Yuuya, who has more names, but he considers himself distinct.
Canon: Hatoful Boyfriend
AU: Modern AU, born human and slowly transformed via echoes at Save The Earth.
Pull-point: After defeating the enemy
Permissions post link: n/a I think, he's observant but that's all.
Opt-out post link: n/a mostly. Body horror if you end up talking transformation with him, emotional abuse if you get him to talk about his dad.
Age: 26, you can't really tell at a look.
Gender/Sex: Male/male. You really can't tell without hearing his voice or performing a hands-on examination. Don't do that without buying him a drink.
Appearance: He's a muscular white pigeon with a fanned tail, a crest on the back of his head, blue dyed markings, and bright blue eyes. Also he's the size of a small horse and has long legs and a couple of fingers on each wing. Refs - one, two, three.
History: The reincarnation of a spy pigeon, Julien was born the son of a reasonably terrible wealthy man, who came with his mother when they divorced and moved often after that, continuing to meander when he started living on his own. In his twenties he came to live with his sister in Locke and started working at a tiny charity clinic in a bad part of town, befriending the very srs head doctor and finding meaning in the work. It was a good couple of years.
Then the planet started to react to alien invaders by causing people like Julien to start regaining elements of their previous lives. In his case he had many physical alterations, often upsetting in nature. He struggled handling them plus alien stuff plus concealing things from the authorities, usually acting as support for network members. Things got difficult when his sister moved away and his bff dropped off-network, but he refused to leave. New friends and a lover helped.
Nearly a year after this started the invasion efforts went public and Julien's changes became too extreme to hide. He had to quit at the clinic, found that he couldn't leave, became a model for several months, then started basically working PR, creating a public persona. A dear friend pushed him away violently and, nearly a year after having gone public, he changed to the point of looking like a bird and fled civilization to be miserable in the wilderness. Friends came and brought him back. Julien participated in the climactic battle, trying to help people, and went into space to try and convince the big bad to back down via the power of friendship.
Personality: Julien's known for being really friendly and never intimidated or down about anything for long, which is partially a screen. He sees the best in people and quickly considers them friends. Julien enjoys teasing, avoids real conflict, and doesn't show much temper. There are notable exceptions - he can't stand "kill them all they're not real people" policies or abuse of women or children - but his preference is to go cold and leave, not escalate. In general he's very non-violent. Also he has trust issues, can be secretive, and shows pretty low self-esteem. Julien loves flying but resents aspects of his transformation, especially hating being treated like an animal. He's vain. While he's curious, he tries not to probe into things people don't want to talk about. He has a real desire to help others.
Abilities:
- Flies very well, fast and agile and for very long periods of time. Normal pigeons fly at around 50 mph in normal travel, 90 mph at a sprint, and can manage 600 miles in a day (or 20 days' foot travel per day holy shit). Julien is significantly larger than a one-pound working bird and has far more momentum and power, but also a large tail and he's not specifically a racing bird. Plus he'll be molting soon, which will limit him for a couple months. Julien can fly a max of 10-12 "days-by-foot" per day unburdened and under ideal conditions. With a (light!) passenger or carrying something heavy, it's closer to 5-7.
- Ludicrously good vision. It's higher resolution/can zoom in a little, focuses on multiple things at once, processes faster, and picks up on ultraviolet light and a lot more colors. Stars are visible in the day and through cloud cover, skin is partially transparent, fingerprints and fluids are clearly visible, catches facial expressions well. Main downside is poor night vision.
- Good hearing, can hear distant storms, coasts, and mountains.
- Excellent navigation, can "home" back to places he's been and is rarely lost when aboveground
- Wing attack could easily kill someone, is capable of fighting
- Can make himself hard to notice, can move silently
- Can shout very loudly and imitate voices to a degree
- Carries Carneades, the bird uplift virus, in a weakened form that only works on pigeons and takes several generations
- Heals well
- Swims strongly
- Can eat some things normal humans can't
- Speaks Sindarin
- Ludicrous dexterity, can improvise alterations to technology and pick locks
- First aid skills
- Computer hacking and alien ship flying skills that are totally useless here
Inventory: He has a messenger bag filled with:
- an absurdly tiny solar-charging smartphone. With nothing to connect to it's still got some games, music, movies, and some pictures.
- Yuuya's dreamcracker tech, used to get into someone's dream and either help them to wake up or fight evil spirits keeping them asleep.
- Seeds for tiny purple roses and almost as tiny pink apples.
- Three ridiculously tiny walkie-talkies
- Four very large homemade energy bars
- A sniper rifle only about two or three feet long, only useable by him, and a mere 15 rounds for it.
- The Dunedain star-brooch
- Luxury items from Minas Tirith: several mirrors in glass and bronze of various sizes, elaborately carved combs, an attractively inlaid portable writing desk sort of thing with writing supplies, a keg of wine that had soured to vinegar, random jewelry, one of those winged helmets, clothing with minimal damage, a nice shiny spyglass, a fancy dulcimer, possibly spices and dyes, a silver pitcher and, erm, silverware.
- Traded from the Corsairs: a course of antibiotic pills, a cordless drill that needs no power source, three syringes with unscrewable needles, and a thermometer suitable for taking a person's temperature.
Anything else: Can't think of it!
